Travelling Anxiety

 Here I am in my car!!! Yep - had to include this!

 

Travel anxiety and anxiety around driving are 2 areas I see a lot in my coaching business and I want to give you some quick mindset shifts and simple thought processed you can put in place to reframe the situation.

 

1. Don't focus on travelling, focus on the destination.

Reaching your destination is the end goal but so often we focus on how we will get there, that we never reach out end goal at all.

the travelling will all be worth it when you reach that place, get to your loved one, see that amazing view. So take yourself to the end destination as often as you can and build up the emotions you will feel when you get there.

Reframe the focus and counteract the worry and anxiety about travelling with the relief and happiness you will when its all over.

Let that consume your mind instead. Fill yourself up with that excitement and pride.

 

 

2. The journey cannot last forever

Give yourself breaks. Along the journey, look for when you can take breaks. When can you get out of the transport? Get some air? Leave that environment?

 

You can complete the journey in chunks, and its called chunking funnily enough.

 

Break down the travelling and journey into chunks that are more manageable for you.

 

If it is being on a plane, break up the journey with times that you will stand and move around, time you spend reading, time you spending watching a movie, time you eat. Focus less on the entirety of the journey and more on each individual step that you are taking. You will see that each stage ends, and brings you to the next and soon enough, all of the stages end and the journey is over.

 

3. Why are you travelling?

Balance out your reasons. If your why is strong enough, you can use this to fuel you.

 

I am travelling because I have to collect a parcel (you could always do that tomorrow)

I am travelling to do the food shop (tonight we can have a takeaway)

 

 

I am travelling to collect my sister from the airport after travelling for 6 months (you have to do that or she will be stranded!)

I am travelling to go on our first family holiday in 2 years (the memories will be priceless)

 

Can you see?

The more you can create excuses, the more your mind will try to give them to you.

 

So make sure you ask yourself WHY and if the WHY is big enough - listen to it and use that as your fuel to keep on going.
